Abaddon the Lord of Avernus is a melee strength Hero known as one of the most versatile characters in Dota due to his rather low mana dependence, short spell cooldowns and a large number of viable item choices. His ability to help sustain his allies and himself plus his strong tower diving capacity give him solid lane presence. Many of his abilities offer a large sum of utility, which makes him a strong support Hero. serves as both a single target nuke and heal that helps shift the sustainability of both allied and enemy heroes in a lane at his will, though sacrificing a portion of his own health. holds as one of the most useful abilities in the game, able to shield a target from some damage while also able to reflect said damage to a huge area. The most important aspect is how it is able to dispel many status effects such as slows and stuns. His other abilities allow him to become a mix between a semi-carry and tank. Abaddon's passive, , allows his attacks to not only slow down his enemy, but also increase the attack and movement speed of any ally attacking the same target. With his ultimate, , Abaddon is able to shift all non-HP removal damage he receives into health. When not on cooldown, Borrowed Time may activate passively when his health falls under a certain threshold, even under the most dire situations. The Font of Avernus is the source of a family's strength, a crack in primal stones from which vapors of prophetic power have issued for generations. Each newborn of the cavernous House Avernus is bathed in the black mist, and by this baptism they are given an innate connection to the mystic energies of the land. They grow up believing themselves fierce protectors of their lineal traditions, the customs of the realm--but what they really are protecting is the Font itself. And the motives of the mist are unclear. When the infant Abaddon was bathed in the Font, they say something went awry. In the child's eyes there flared a light of comprehension that startled all present and set the sacerdotes to whispering. He was raised with every expectation of following the path all scions of Avernus took--to train in war, that in times of need he might lead the family's army in defense of the ancestral lands. But Abaddon was always one apart. Where others trained with weapons, he bent himself to meditation in the presence of the mist. He drank deep from the vapors that welled from the Font, learning to blend his spirit with the potency that flowed from far beneath the House; he became a creature of the black mist. It’s hard to kill someone who’s already dead. Those words describe Abaddon completely. He is strong support who is almost impossible to kill. He will let his allies to play on any lane, because of heal and the ability to tank, and in late he helps a lot with attack speed increase.
— Versatile spell that may attack or defend. Heal allies or harass enemies depends on situation. This spell has huge radius of use, so you can sure last hit running enemies. Don’t think if we should leave the frag for carry or not, because dead enemy is always better than alive enemy. Mist Coil works well with , especially when shield learned for 1st level that allows us give great nuke damage.
- The spell let’s stop Aphotic Shield giving the damage in the area.
- Does not work on magical immunity (damage to oneself is not given too).
- It will let you kill yourself and not give yourself into the enemy’s hands.
— This is additional health for us and our allies. It also cancels all debuffs from target, we should remember of that when we play 3v3 on lane against aggressive heroes like , etc. We can push the lane but to do that we need to use the shield on creep or on hero who tanks. If we play aggressively we need to attack the enemy with combo + mist Coil, but run behind the creeps first so they won’t get any damage. But until we get its better to watch your mana.
- If enemy does not want to destroy our Aphotic Shield it will blow up after the time will pass.

— Passive that lets us kill one target, and that makes us kind of gunner for allies. In early game the main advantage of this spell is increase of move speed. And in team fights, increase of attack speed and slowdown for enemy will be more useful, but we need high level of skill for that.

— This spell gives us a lot of survivability in team fights. We need to practice a little to use this spell effectively, and pick the right moment to use it. The beginners will be saved by the auto activation when the HP is lower than 400. We almost always invulnerable for all types of damage for 3/4/5 seconds, this is just great for support, who has no money for expensive items.

Early game for Abaddon (up to 15 minute)
We need to think of enemy’s potential for early fights and pick the right lane. If there is no such probability of fights we will go to easy lane (top for Dire bottom for Radiant), to get gold and experience from pulls. If we have aggressive hero we may go to hard lane and kill enemy’s carry.
On first levels we will have problems with mana, so we need to buy faster, especially on hard lane, because there we will have to use spells all the time. We should try not to die from enemies but from our if there is no other choice.
Next item will be that will increase our survivability, mana regeneration, and will restore our HP that we wasted on . Abaddon earns a lot of assists with that has nice AoE, so we will have enough charges in .
Middle game for Abaddon (from 15 till 35 minute)
Now we may try to gank, because farm will be for our carry. But if we have chance to farm pack of creeps we should do that, because usually we don’t have a lot of gold. If we have another melee hero in team we may buy . That item is easy to buy and will give useful auras. Alternative item is that will increase our stats, and will give us mobility, so we will move around battlefield and pick the target we need.
Now we can buy , because we are usually deep inside the fights, and we will heal effectively. We should try to tank as much damage as possible, so our team will get less damage, don’t be afraid to run in front of your team, and provoke your enemy to use spells. We always have , if something bad happens.
After that it’s great moment to buy , because is now of 4th level and minions will kill targets really fast. It’s important to upgrade to 3rd level because it’s not so effective without it. In team fights we need to think fast and pick the right target that our team will focus. It can be carry or hero with low HP. You may target minions from onto fragile support and hero will deal with dangerous enemy, decreasing his mobility.
We should always use , on the hero we chose. You need to know all your active abilities and items. Usually on that time game comes to an end, but if it carries on we should be always close to our team and buy to control the map, and don’t forget to buy .
Late game for Abaddon (from 35 minute)
Last slot is for such great item as . That item will passively decrease attack speed of enemy, increase our armor and will give us active slow down, when we will be in the middle of the fight. We always need to have money on buyback on this stage, especially for Abaddon, because our ultimate will be ready again while enemy comes to our towers.
